CREATE BUY IN

"Buy in" is when your employees know your vision, understand it, and are passionate about driving it forward.

It is true that no one will be as passionate as your are about your vision, but that doesn’t mean that they won’t be passionate. When both employees and customers are bought in to your vision, you don’t just have followers, you have ambassadors. Ambassadors are people who promote your company, not out of obligation, but out of passion. People who are passionate about your vision and brand are better than any salesman, because they believe in what they are promoting. That is what you want.

You don’t want employees who tacitly do their work, then go home and complain to their friends and family about your business. That is customers out the door. You want people who are excited to work for you, and are bought into your mission, because they will go home and tell their friends about how much they enjoy their job.

You don’t have to have a glamorous business to create buy in. It's more about what you as the leader present to your customers and employees. Healthy culture can create as much buy in as a high paying career if you, as the leader, commit to making your business the best place to work. People will buy in when they understand your “why”, so it all goes back to vision. If you create, commit to, and openly communicate about your vision, and then serve those who want to carry it out with you, you will have buy in. When people buy into your business, you are not just making money, you are creating a legacy that can follow your business for years to come.

Look at your business now. Does it match your vision? Are you satisfied with the work of your employees? More importantly, do your employees seem happy to work for you? If you aren’t sure about the answer to those questions, take some time to revisit your vision and take an honest stock of your leadership. If your current leadership style isn’t working, it might be time for a change. I promise, if you make the effort to create a lasting vision and invest in your employees, you will get the business you are looking for.
